About
Offerspill invites you and everyone to participate in Offerspill Relief Arena! This will be a first-of-a-kind tournament, played over 24(!) hours straight and with a 10.000 NOK (~870EUR) prize pool. The tournament will be played on Lichess, the format will be Blitz Arena, and the winner will be the player who has collected the most points after 24 hours of play.
Chess is in a unique position at the moment with a great surge in the overall interest, number of players, and the number of games being played. We truly believe in chess as a positive force for cognition, friendly competition, and for the wider society, especially in these still-sitting times. We also want to contribute to fighting the Covid-19 virus by donating 10.000 NOK to CDP (Center for Disaster Philanthropy) COVID-19 Response Fund, and will during the tournament have a 24-hours English stream with great chess players playing the tournament. We invite you to follow the stream and urge you to support the cause by donating.

When: Thursday, April 9th, 18:00 CEST (16:00 UTC)
Format: 3+2 Blitz Arena, 24 hour duration
Note: You don’t need to play the whole tournament. You can come and go as you choose during the duration of the tournament.
If you are new to Lichess, we suggest you become familiar with the Arena format. Read Lichess’s Arena FAQ here. If multiple players finish the tournament with the same number of points, tournament performance is used to break the tie. Prizes will be awarded through PayPal.

Donate
The CDP COVID-19 Response Fund will focus on supporting nonprofit organizations working directly to respond to the pandemic among the most vulnerable populations in order to help build their capacity for response. These will include social service organizations focused on supporting hourly wage earners, workers in the gig economy, immigrant/New American populations, older adults, people with disabilities and other communities vulnerable to the physical health, mental health and economic impacts of the pandemic.
